2016 For Those Who Would OCR Humanitarian Award Nominations Open

Mud Run Guide has once again partnered with For Those Who Would and OCR World Championships to award the second annual For Those Who Would OCR Humanitarian Award. For Those Who Would, a Richmond, Kentucky-based 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charity rooted in the obstacle racing community launched as an organization supporting individuals unable to participate in athletic and physical recreational activities due to debilitating injuries or chronic diseases.

Spartan Makes a Splash on NBC – By the Numbers

The obstacle racing community has been voicing their opinions on social media all day after the premiere of Spartan: Ultimate Team Challenge last night. The community has been quick to "Tuesday morning quarterback" the new reality competition show. Everyone enthusiastic about the sport of obstacle racing wants this new show to showcase the sport that has become the core of who many are or want to become.

OCRTUBE: OCR European Championships

Arnel Banawa's European quest continues with his latest OCRTUBE.com video profiling the first OCR European Championships. The championship race featured over 22 Countries. The event took place in the Netherlands and was a collaborative effort from multiple European organizations. The 15K course featured over 50+ challenging obstacles (over 80 obstacles if you include the natural terrain obstacles). The 1st Annual Independent OCREC was a huge success!

  • Everest 2.0

#ObstacleWeek Continues with Everest 2.0

While most people will never make it to Tibet to scale the largest mountain in the world, for us in the OCR world we only have to go as far as out local Tough Mudder to conquer Everest. Over the years, Everest has gotten bigger and tougher. This slick quarter pipe is over 15’ tall, with a recurved top to make it extra hard to get that handhold. Today is all about Everest 2.0 as part of #ObstacleWeek.

Today marks the first day of #ObstacleWeek at Tough Mudder, it begins with a shock to your system with Electroshock Therapy. Electroshock Therapy was rated #5 on the top 5 obstacles for #ObstacleWeek. Over the years, electroshock therapy has been one of the most feared obstacles a well as the one that many "love to hate". With 10,000 volts streaming through the hanging wires it can be an electrifying experience running through the obstacle.

I love OCR, as it encompasses so many different types of fitness throughout a race: cardiovascular, strength, muscle endurance, along with agility, speed and skill. I do it to model the lifestyle that is possible to my clients and everyone. OCR is a great metaphor for life: we all experience obstacles that we must overcome.
