Hopes were high for the first Spartan Beast held at Snow Summit in Big Bear, California, literally. The 4,000 feet of elevation gain in 12.2 miles did not disappoint. Well, it actually did disappoint a few competitors, who suffered the elevation, dust and tricky technical terrain.
Spartan Race is a magical experience. You truly get to channel your inner-warrior and put your limits to the test. I love Spartan Race for this and have done nearly 40 events with them. But what if “putting your limits to the test” was also a test of your bladder strength? Is this acceptable?
For a bit of context, let's start out with a little bit about me. I finished off 2012 at the doctors, sick and obese in horrible health. I knew I needed to do something about it so I set a 2013 resolution to get healthy and loose some weight. Fast forward, I've lost almost 75lbs and had a child in 2015.
It has honestly taken me a while to process everything emotionally and physically that I went through during the Sun Peaks Spartan Race Beast. I have never had a race break me like that (not even a marathon). To put it lightly, the Beast was the hardest race that I ever conquered and the last piece of my Trifecta puzzle
Cody Moat was named the 2017 Spartan Race World Champion on Saturday. After the race, he took a few moments to talk about winning the race and what it meant to him. Moat won his first Spartan Race World Championship in 2012 in Vermont than a relative unknown in the sport.
