Good race, would recommend

Nov 03, 2013 by Jenn

Just finished running this race today- my first ever mud run. I’ve run about 20-25 5k races, and just 2 10K races. With that being said, I have a pretty good idea of what to expect. Here’s a breakdown of my experience today:

Pros:
•Very fast check in and packet pick up. There were lot of people available at all of the stations and it moved very quickly.
•Friendliness of the staff. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE that I encountered were great. I probably interacted with 40-50 7 Springs employees and they were all fantastic. I’ve never had that kind of experience at a race before.
•Variety of obstacles. While there was some repetition (do I really have to go over 3 walls?), there was a big variety in just under 8 miles.
•MUD!!! Loved the mud obstacles, including the mud on the course. My only complaint was the cheese grater was too close to the end so I looked too clean when I crossed the finish line- I WANTED TO SHOW OFF MY MUD!!!
•Lots of aid stations around the course and fire! Oh, thank you so much for the fire, especially after the duck dive!
•Warm water in the hoses! Pressure was lacking in a few on the end, but who cares, it was warm!
•NO wait for most obstacles. The heats were the perfect size (I’ve read other horror stories) and aside from a few of the longer obstacles, we were on a few with no other runners around.
•Small heats with just enough time in between to really space out the participants.
•Photographers were everywhere. While the pictures aren’t posted yet, I’m sure I’ll be able to find myself in one or two and can’t wait to go online to see them and possibly purchase.

Cons:
•Zero signs for the events- none telling you where it was and no direction for parking until you actually reached the correct area.
•No direction for spectators. Aside from taking your $10 and giving you a wristband and general directions, no one bothered to tell them where they could and couldn’t go. People were sure if they could walk to obstacles beyond the top of the lift or if they had to remain there. In a few places, spectators were even on the course, chatting with runners.
•Poor direction in general. While everyone was happy to point you in the right direction, the lack of signage or details instructions made finding things more difficult that it needed to be.
•No bathrooms. I know that you’re really not supposed to stop and pee in a race, but one or two might have been a great addition!
•Changing stations were smelly and very primitive. Also, would have been helpful to know what things I may want to bring, like a towel!!!
•There was a long stretch with few obstacles and a few places where they were practically on top of each other. It would be nice to spread them out a bit.

The negatives were minor, compared to the positives in this race. I can’t wait to do this again in May and already have my calendar marked to sign up as soon as it’s available. Overall, I would recommend this race to anyone who asked.

Tons of Fun

May 13, 2013 by Nad

This was my first time doing this event or any others like it and it was great!!! The Monsoon-like rains only added to the fun. Everything was organized and ran smoothly and the volunteers were friendly and helpful. My only complaint would be the lack of an adequate wash-off area (most of the hoses didn't work and the water pressure was a joke), and the lack of an adequate changing area for after the event. Also, could someone look for the skin that was ripped off my knee by the rocks under the Cheese Grater plastic?
