Race Recap – Goliathon IX Try the Obstacles Day

Today was Try the Obstacles Day (TTOD) at Goliathon. Participants had the opportunity to get on six of seven (nearly half) of the course obstacles before the main event day coming up June 2. We got about 20 minutes of unrestricted time to try out techniques, twists and sometimes tumbles, on some very tough obstacles.

Jar of Hope Fitness Run and 5K

A race that gave me a new “why” and that was the Jar of Hope 2nd. Annual Fitness Challenge and 5k. This would be an opportunity to run for charity while honoring a very special little boy and a very special friend of mine.

The most recent stop in the Spartan Honor Series presented by USAA was at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, Colorado. While most Spartans were watching Robert Killian and Samantha Wood crush the course and take the Elite podiums, Operation Enduring Warrior and Team OscarMike were preparing for the culmination of their weekend.

Savage Race decided to try something new for 2018. A few months back they put out a photo teaser about a new event called Savage Blitz.  They followed it up with a live video and we were told it would be a 3 mile course with 15-20 obstacles. They originally were doing a limited release this season with only 4 planned locations.

The April 28th and April 29th, 2018 Philadelphia Convention Center FitExpo showcased a fantastic assortment of fitness activities. There is no surprise Spartan wouldn't be up in the mix. The Philadelphia Spartan Expo Dash added a unique experience for those looking for a challenge while at The FitExpo.

Race Recap: Bonefrog Virginia Beach

Bonefrog has expanded their race lineup once again. On 4/29/18 they hosted a brand new race in Virginia Beach, VA. The race took place at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex, a large facility dedicated to various sports events. Equipped with massive open grass fields, field hockey pitches, and even an athletic field with stadium seating this venue is well suited to handle any sporting event and it did not disappoint.

Rugged Maniac recently stopped in Los Angeles and was a blast! I first heard of this race a few years ago on Shark Tank when Mark Cuban invested $1.75 million into the company. I was excited to head to my third Rugged Maniac. From start to finish Rugged Maniac offered a fun race, food trucks, festival contests, cool swag, cold beer, and new obstacles. Rugged Maniac athletes were all around showing off their medals and swag with Sierra Nevada in hand. 

Race Recap: TriState New Jersey Spartan Ultra

On Saturday, April 28th, 2018 racers stood at the start line of the inaugural Spartan Tri-State Ultra event. The race was held at a venue familiar to Spartan, Mountain Creek Resort in Vernon, New Jersey. However, many participants agree that the course was more challenging and demanding than the 2017 design.

Endurance Spotlight: Bonefrog Endurance

The event style that is taking hold of the obstacle racing world are endurance events, more specifically the multi-lap format. Enter Bonefrog Challenge’s Endurance event. The endurance distance was introduced last year and is very reminiscent of another company that also had a frog mascot. In this breakdown, I will be digging into my experience to help compare this event to other OCR endurance events.
