James Appleton: Chasing a Passion On and Off Course

James Appleton is well known in much of the obstacle racing world. He is one of the main characters profiled in the upcoming Rise of the Sufferfests documentary. This Londoner made a name for himself through his impressive finishes at Tough Guy and has been a dominant force in obstacle racing in the United Kingdom. What many people do not know about Appleton is his other passion, photography. He is an award-winning photographer.

BattleFrog Atlanta II – If It’s Raining This Must Be Atlanta – Race Review

If it's raining, this must be Atlanta! For the third Atlanta race in a row, there was rain on Friday night into Saturday. And for the second race in a row, it was on top of already rain saturated ground. But there was a difference...for me anyway...the rain and humidity during the week caused my tent to feel like a soggy pretzel with not-cleaned-yet t-shirts tossed in the corners...soaking up pools of condensed water. This was actually making the idea of sloshing through extreme amounts of mud and water at the BattleFrog race seem quite attractive!

The Lake Las Vegas WTM course is pretty similar to the landscape from a particular movie from my childhood - the desert of Tatooine. It's actually quite remarkable how the "resort section" of Lake Las Vegas has lush green colf courses replete with water fountains, finely manicured lawns wrapping the easments from hotel to hotel. Tough Mudder Tristate – Race Recap

The Tough Mudder crew set up shop this year in one of the most amazing locations imaginable. The 10+ mile course was literally along the New York Harbor. Mudders spent the weekend with a little less mud than what you would expect at a typical event; however the views of the Statue of Liberty and The New York skyline made this an unforgettable event.
