Remember when you were a kid—when you would not only walk toward a puddle, but stomp right in the middle of it, making as big a splash as you could? Kids who aren’t yet brainwashed by electronic media go outside to play, explore, and get dirty. They squat down to dig in the sand with impeccable flexibility and balance. They climb and swing and tumble for the sheer joy of their own movement. When was the last time you went through the mud instead of around it, were overcome with exhilaration at your own power, or felt giddy just by being alive? We are building a global sport and community around the Spartan model of obstacle racing because we want to give millions of people the opportunity to push themselves to be their best; to race with others who share this passion; and to embrace the Spartan Code for training and competition in their lives. Just like people say, “I’m a runner,” or, “I’m a triathlete,” hundreds of thousands of people are now saying, “I’m a Spartan Racer.” – Selica Sevigny (Member of the Founding Few) Spartan Races are timed competitions that are orchestrated over standardized distances and feature natural and man-made obstacles specifically designed to test mind-body fitness. Every race at every distance will have you climbing, lifting, crawling, rolling, carrying, running, swimming, balancing, throwing, and jumping. All Spartan Race courses are deliberately designed to leave you exhausted and exhilarated; the completion of any of our courses is an accomplishment that deserves to be recognized, and each finisher has truly earned their Spartan Race medal. Our motto is “You’ll Know at the Finish Line” is not just an empty marketing phrase, but a sentiment that is shared by all of our athletes who have been bonded through the collective challenge of completing one of the world’s best obstacle courses.

- Maybe an unintentional bee sting
If you have done any race anywhere in the world: whether a mud run,
fun run, olympic run, bike race, death march or any kind of event
claiming to be the ""toughest race on the planet"" you will be happy to
know that this is where it ends..THIS IS THE SPARTAN BEAST...Step up and get out of your comfort zone, many will arrive, but few will leave!
NOTE: If you are unsure as to if you can do The Beast we are allowing you a 'dignified exit' if you need it at mile 3. This will also serve as the ultimate test of resolve for those who plan on doing the full event. Each racer will have to confront choice between luxury and relaxation or facing 9 more miles of HELL. You are welcome to plan on only doing 3 mile section of course but price remains the same and you will not receive official time or medal.
There are some staples in our repertoire. There are also some venue specific and terrain inspired obstacles. We will not, however, spell it out for you. We do not have course maps. Each Spartan Race strives to surprise the athlete. Preperation for the unknown is a must.
There is fire, mud, water, barbed wire, and occasionally Hell on Earth. There WILL be obstacles to catch you off guard. Curve balls, so to speak. Get over it.
We’re here to rip you from your comfort zone. If you need a road map for each step of the way, then maybe this race isn’t for you.
In a Spartan Race first, this race is largely SELF-SUPPORTED. There
will only be ONE WATER STATION on this 13 mile course with zero calories
available to racers. It will not be sufficient for you to rely solely
on this water station for your hydration needs. This additional
challenge will take the difficulty of this event to the next level; you
will need to plan and train accordingly.
All racers will be REQUIRED TO HAVE A WATER SOURCE ON THEM at the start line in order to start the race. Yes, you read that correctly, mandatory gear in the form of a water source (camelback, bottle, fuel belt, etc). It is up to you to determine how significant of a water source you will need. We highly recommend you also have some calories with you on the course. It will take Olympic caliber athletes 3 hours to complete this race. Most of you will take 5-8 hours. If you don’t plan your nutrition and hydration properly you will risk not finishing the event and you are putting your health at risk.
Awards ceremony for the top finishers of the Spartan Race (varies by location, not always applicable)

The sun sets at 6:45pm
on race day. As the course is developed we will be establishing
cut-offs at checkpoints throughout the course. Racers will
have to reach various checkpoints, BEFORE the designated
cut off time. If they do not reach the checkpoint on time,
they will be removed for their own safety. We are exploring
all of our options to keep racers on the course for as long
as possible, including the allowed use of headlamps to complete
certain portions of the course.
There are 1-2 water crossings/obstacles on the course that racers must navigate. Athletes that can not swim will be given PFDs (Personal Floatation Device).
