Race Recap: Indian Mud Run

Indian Mud Run is the epitome of the term “Home-grown race.” Founded in 2012 in an effort to raise funds for the local levy that had recently failed, it has seen steady growth in each subsequent year. This year the race boasted 700+ participants, sure that’s far cry from the numbers that Spartan Race pulls week after week, but when you dig a little deeper you find that 20 different states were represented among the runners. What in the world could be bringing in racers from all across the country in what otherwise seems to be a small and obscure event?

Last Week in OCR: From Sea-to-Sea

One of the things many of us love best about Obstacle Course Racing, is that the races come in so many forms. Not just the variety of obstacles and terrain, but that no matter what your skill level, there is something out there for everyone. Whether a race has 60 per year, or 6, is International, or a one-off rural labor of love – we are there having fun with our friends and family, doing what everyone else thinks we are crazy for doing, and knowing that they are the crazy ones for missing out.

Vanessa Letts: Obstacle Racing “Adult Gap Year”

My love for obstacle racing started in 2012 after doing an 8k mud run with friends in my hometown of Perth, Western Australia. I loved the mud and the atmosphere at the event, but the feeling of accomplishment after completing each obstacle was what left me wanting more. Obstacle racing helped me combat the stresses of my office job as it gave me an outlet to release my frustrations.

Faces at the Races — Josh Phillips

I had back surgery in 1998 and this started the downward trajectory of my health and fitness. Once a HS basketball star, I quit taking care of my body and the scar tissue from surgery did the rest. At times I was confined to a wheelchair because of back spasms when I would walk. After finally reaching 220lbs, I decided to not let back pain hold me back any longer.
