This race was a lot of fun but there are some things I would have liked to have known upfront. The website ALWAYS advertises a half price deal that ends the next day (even on the day of the race). Do not feel pressured to sign up early for fear of missing the deal. There are lots of EXTRA FEES. Insurance fee of $10 per person. Parking fee of $15. Bag check fee $5. Morning registration is slow for those trying to get to the competitive heat by 8:00. The obstacles get very slippery as the day goes on. Earlier heats are safer. Again, I had lots of fun with my family but would have liked to have known these things at the start for planning.

Great obstacles but unprepared for the hear

Jun 17, 2018 by Tiffany

This was my first all terrain race but definitely NOT my first 5k or 5k with obstacles. I will start with the good points. Parking was pleasant tiful and close to the actual starting point. I thought the obstacles were great and really pushed me past what I thought I was capable of. Now for the downside. The event was ill prepared for the June heat in TN and by the end of the race they had not only run out of the water for rinsing off but had absolutely no water to drink for the racers finishing that started in the last heat to run. I have done a lot of summer events and this was the only one that had only 2 water stations on the actual course. June 96+ degrees with a heat index of 100+ they should have had at least 3. Medical assistance was hard to come by. Individuals who needed help would be waiting for a very long time sitting on the side of the course. I would hate to think of what may have happened if any of them had been in serious trouble or if there were any serious injuries on the course. Water and Medics are two of the most important elements and I sure hope someone sees this and improves it for the next race.

Best Race of All

Jun 16, 2018 by Anthony Duncan

My friends and I completely agree that this was the best races we have attended. We have done Spartan, Battle Frog, Warrior Dash, etc. The reason we like this one was it was more of a race that pushed us and had great obstacles that were all not mud. The walls, apparatus, rope climb, monkey bars, etc are great to push us. We CrossFit and train for those type of obstacles and it makes it challenging and very fun. Many people like the mud apparently but I am not a fan of running miles while covered. Overall it was a great event. I hope they come back and it continues to grow. Not to mention much cheaper than the others.

not worth

Jun 12, 2018 by Billy Meres

very basic obstacle course, but that's ok. problem is with company. several weeks before event, my son found out he could not attend that day. I tried contacting company to found out how to transfer to another race since we do a few a year. this is now 2 weeks after race and still haven't heard a thing. only one food truck provided at race and it was fried food. absolutely no entertainment provided after race. and now we cannot get access to our action photos of the race that we were told we would get with registration fee. have tried contacting company again about photo, but no response. just very unhappy with the way things are handled. no customer service skills whatsoever. will not be running any obstacles with this company until they decide to treat us better and give us what we pay for. very unhappsy.

Can I Give a Negative Rating

May 22, 2018 by Kelli Grennan

I have asked this site to contact me NUMEROUS times. It says within 24 hours but I have never received a response. The race we signed up for, Vermont July 28th, no longer exists on the site and there has been no contact. Worst communication EVER!

Complete washout

Apr 24, 2018 by Louis

Let start by saying I am new to OCR and only have a few under my belt, with that being said this event by far was the most frustrating. To begin with the day of the race there was a bad storm system come through the gulf coast area, we got almost no info from the race on conditions or alternate plans. It took massive amounts of social media posts to get what little info was provided. One positive was the course. It was really fun to run, we were blessed with some unique natural obstacles, namely a cold a** river, on this course. For that reason alone I would consider this race next year. But my real gripe is post race. We were told that pictures and results would be up in a couple of days. Well the pictures took 15 days and they only included the finish line and one obstacle. The results took another day to post and they don’t appear to be correct. In all honesty I don’t have a snowballs chance in south Alabama to reach a podium in these races, that’s not the reason I run them. But when I pay the extra money to run in the competitive heats so I can get an accurate time I expect that those results will not take two weeks to get. Also I expect them to be correct. I know for a fact that the men’s winners are wrong. So the big question would I recommend this race, if you want a fun run absolutely but if you are serious about your training and are expecting true and accurate results stay away. Maybe this was just a fluke but the organization had been very slow to respond to any request for information. In my line of work we say “past performance is an indicator of future performance” and their performance was terrible.

Should have saved my $$!!

Apr 24, 2018 by Sylvia

So, we are now 16 days post race day and they are just now posting the “results”. We were told the results would be posted within “a day or two”. The Pensacola Terrain Race Facebook page was completely deleted bc of all the negative comments. What more needs to be said?? They advertised that the competitive waves would be ranked and timed based on keeping your band throughout all obstacles. However, look at the men’s results on their website. There are ZERO distinctions between someone who skipped every obstacle and ones that completed every one of them. It was raining the entire race which meant the grip obstacles were that much harder. So, for someone to maintain their band the entire race (which was the goal) and be thrown into the rankings with people that did not...what’s the point?!? Why even sign up for the competitive wave?? This race is SO poorly organized and the management is definitely lacking. SAVE YOUR MONEY!! There are definitely better options out there!

Didn’t know I signed up for a fun run.

Apr 24, 2018 by Matt

I wish I had more hands because I would give this outfit four thumbs down. This review is for those interested in the competitive heats. If you don’t train and don’t care about seeing how your fitness level stacks up against other racers then this is the race for you. However, if you’ve been training hard and want to see the results of your efforts you would be better off wearing a tutu and getting sprayed with glitter/color as you run a 5K. Terrain Racing should not advertise themselves as an obstacle course race. They should advertise as a 5K with some optional obstacles thrown in because it doesn’t matter if you complete the obstacles or not because you will be ranked just the same. Have a blessed day.

Fun and Relaxed

Apr 16, 2018 by Jeff

I highly recommeas an introductory or for fun race given that only the elite level is timed. Parking was close and all the extras were conveniently located. I had no problem with the multiple laps option - just waived my wrist band and was waived through. Since I was between heats after my first lap, I had almost no lines at the obstacles. Even the first lap wasn't too crowded. The obstacles are not as intense or long as a Spartan Race (although an 8 foot wall doesn't change too much, although there was a 4 foot option). Starting off in a tub of water was odd, but as long as you didn't jump in with 10 minutes to start time it was fine, and I enjoyed slipping off the monkey bars into a pool of cold water. It was clean the first time I went around (lol). .After race music and atmosphere was casual and relaxed. Beer was $5.Food was available. It was 30 minutes from my house which helps and I'll do it again next year. As my son said, it was sort of a back yard obstacle course race. He meant that in a good way and I agreed. Everyone at home loves the monkey shaped medal!

A good time

Apr 07, 2018 by Amanda

You get what you pay for and for the cost this was a great race. Obstacles were well built, a bit crowded at times but as I said you get what you pay for. Would do it again in a heartbeat. Only issue was they were light on parking so part of the course ran through the parking lot, not a big deal but just a little odd.
